School Hosts Fashion Business Panel in NYC

GWSB is presenting “Fashion:  It’s an `Haute Business” – a panel discussion featuring School alumni and parents sharing perspectives on the current business issues facing the fashion industry.

The event is hosted as part of the School’s MBA and undergraduate New  York career treks program. Among those on the panel will be Lisa Bromberg, BBA, ’81, senior vice president of licensing for Anne Klein; Wendy Khan, a GW parent and the CEO of Valentino; and Stephen Yalof, BBA, ’85, senior vice president of real estate for Polo Ralph Lauren.

A networking reception with Dean Doug Guthrie, and Associate Deans Isabelle Bajeux and Liesl Riddle, will immediately follow the panel.

Conversations on Creative Leadership

GWSB kicks off the “Conversations on Creative Leadership” series with an event on modern civic leadership hosted by Dean Doug Guthrie and featuring special guest Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

This first event – “The City” – will explore the role of creative leaders in bringing together government, the private sector, and academic institutions to solve society’s most intractable problems. It will include a panel discussion with the Mayoral Fellows MBA students who are developing a five-year economic development strategy for the District of Columbia.

Third Annual Enterpreneurship Conference Is This Week

The third annual International Council for Small Business (ICSB)-George Washington University (GW) Global Entrepreneurship Research and Policy Conference will take place on Oct. 11-13 in Washington, D.C.

Dean Guthrie to Speak at Embassy Night 2012

The Baltimore-based World Trade Center Institute is hosting an “Embassy Night” on Oct. 4 that will highlight successful partnerships around the world between nations and businesses and feature a dinner speech by Dean Doug Guthrie.

Representatives from over 30 countries are expected at the event, which is designed to showcase global markets and business success. Guthrie will speak on the role of universities in the global economy.

The event, to be held in the atrium ballroom at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center at1300 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, in Washinton, D.C., costs $175 for institute members and $225 for nonmembers.

Among the country and company connections to be honored are Brazil and ARINC; the Czech Republic and Linet America; Ireland and RTI; Kuwait and the Kennedy Kreiger Institute; and the Netherlands and BD Diagnostics.

Real Estate Center Sponsors Career Reception, Discussion

Conference on Walking and Urban Real Estate

What:  A conference on “walkable” urban places and real estate co-sponsored by GWSB’s Center for Real Estate and Urban Analysis and the Urban Land Institute, a nonprofit organization that researches emerging trends and issues on land use, will bring together academics and practitioners to explore “walkable” urban places and their role in economic development in the Washington, D.C., region.

Christopher B. Leinberger, Charles Bendit Distinguished Scholar and research professor of urban real estate, will present new research on “Ranking and Economic and Social Equity Performance of Metro DC’s Walkable Urban Places.” The study establishes metrics to gauge walkable urban places’ performance that could guide investment decisions and public policy development.
