Alumni Volunteers Help Kick Off the School Year

Students are just getting back to class this week here in Foggy Bottom but GWSB alumni volunteers have been busy supporting the school all summer in different parts of the country.

The Graduate Admissions team has begun its fall recruiting cycle, searching the globe for the next great class of MBA candidates. To date, MBA Alumni volunteers have represented GWSB at six admissions fairs this summer, helping to recruit prospective MBA students in Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, New York and DC.

In addition to playing a vital role in the recruitment process, alumni volunteers have been essential in welcoming and preparing new students to their respective programs. Every August, the new cohort of Global MBA students attend a multi-week “institute” that introduces them to the program and incorporates an alumni component in several events. Alumni working in a variety of industries served as hosts at the MBA-In-Action Roundtables on August 12, a signature institute event where students and alumni are able to discuss recent trends, challenges and opportunities in their field. The following weekend, recent MBA Alumni sat on a panel where they shared their student experiences and engaged in conversation at brunch with the new cohort.

During the second week of MBA Institute, students put their skills to the test for a Case Competition focused on creating innovative solutions for Pearson, the world’s leading learning company.   More than twenty alumni served as judges during the competition, providing their feedback and expertise to the student participants.

Alumni volunteers were also active in welcoming students at the Healthcare MBA, Project Management and Information Systems Technology orientations, serving as invaluable symbols of strength and success of the programs as well as the GWSB alumni network.

In the past month, more than 50 alumni volunteers have served the school and the students in a variety of meaningful ways. If you are interested in helping us continue this momentum and the culture of giving back to students, reach out to us at and let us know if you’ve volunteered with the school in the past or you would like to become more involved in the future.
