Dean Guthrie spoke to Chinese business representatives during his trip to China with D.C. officials last month.

Dean Doug Guthrie joined District of Columbia Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins on a recent business-development mission to China.

The trip was designed to increase trade, investment and education opportunities for D.C. with China — one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. It included stops in Beijing, Shanghai and Suzhou, where GW has a satellite campus.

Guthrie also delivered a speech at the first Zhongguancun Internationalization Lecture Series on March 25 in Zhongguancun Science Park, Beijing.

Zeng Xiaodong, international business director of the Zhongguancun administrative committee, presided over the event. The first lecture focused on Chinese enterprises and the process of internationalization.

Xiao Zhixing, management professor at the China Europe International Business School, a leading China-based institution, also spoke at the lecture, which was attended by representatives from nearly 40 Zhongguancun-based businesses.  The lecture series offers training for businesses in such areas as international trade and standards, international protection of intellectual property rights, and the investment environments of target countries.
