Leaving London and Piccadilly Woes
With how easy transportation has been over the course of the last few weeks, I had thought leaving London wouldn’t pose a problem. I planned on giving myself a bit over 3 hours to get to my flight, expecting a good hour on the underground in order to get to Heathrow. Sadly, my only encounter with transportation problems had to happen on my exit. The Piccadilly line was experiencing massive delays due to a signal outage early in the morning. I ended up getting stuck on the line without too many options. As it neared 8:30am, I started to get a little panicked about making my 10am flight. I jumped off the tube with a couple of other travelers in order to get a taxi. Again, luck was not on our side and there were no taxis available (seems like many other folks had the same idea… just before we did!) so a staff member of the car hire company ended up driving us for a fee. I still got there too late and had to be put on standby for a later flight. I was a bit put out by the morning’s travels and the chance I might not actually make it out of London if there wasn’t room on this next flight, but it turned out for the better. My standby ticket turned into a surprise business class upgrade! Relaxing in the comfy seats up front definitely helped me distress from a busy couple of weeks and the stressful trip to the airport! Goodbye London! I hope to return soon because there was so much more I wanted to see and do! – Amanda Lewis
