Twitter Perks- Winning Olympics Tickets!
By Abby Wessman
Earlier this week I blogged about the negative use of Twitter throughout the Olympic Games, but not all Twitter use is bad! At opening ceremonies, I was at a local British pub with my classmates and luckily had Wi-Fi to send out tweets to those back at home. I came across a tweet from the USOC, @USOlympic, about an instant Twitter contest. The first 10 people to tweet in a picture of themselves at a local London spot wearing their red, white and blue to support team USA would win tickets to an event the next day. I had already taken lots of pictures from earlier in the night, so I quickly tweeted in this pic and ten seconds later I received a Direct Message (DM) back from @USOlympic congratulating me and asking to email my contact details to the marketing manager to collet my tickets!! Luck was definitely on my side that night as I just happened to be looking on Twitter when the contest was announced. Melissa (pictured below) and I went to Beach Volleyball the next day with the winning tickets! #socialmediabenefits
