Today in Olympic Park I registered with BP (the official carbon offset partner of London 2012) to offset my travel carbon footprint to London. Using the BP carbon footprint calculator, I found that my trip to London resulted in 22.81kg of carbon emissions and the cost to offset that trip is 0.12 GBP. For every person that registers their trip, BP pledges to offset the carbon footprint of that trip via 6 offsetting projects happening this year. So far 375,392 journeys have been offset.
If you consider the number of people that have and will come to London from all over the world – athletes, media, spectators, staff and volunteers – the footprint is undoubtedly quite large, so this is a pretty cool initiative! Thanks BP!
