Nike In a Class of it’s Own

Nike In a Class of It’s Own
Nike proved to us that they are in a class of their own when it comes to sports marketing and sports product. Their are leading the industry in innovative products and showed that to us with a number of video presentations, a great lecture and the opportunity to see and touch some of their new merchandise hitting stores later this year.
I do feel that they did not get Adidas enough credit at the meeting and I also feel that Under Armour is right on their heels. However, it’s clear that Nike is the industry leader. Plus, as Nike employees for so long, it’s only right that Mr. Nelson Ferris (with Nike since73′) and Mr. Michael Dougherty (over 30 years w/ Nike) are a little biased. They gave an incredible presentation that kept me excited throughout.
I work at a sporting good retailer so this was especially intriguing to me. I mentioned Modell’s Sporting Goods and Mr. Mitchell Modell to them and they were very familiar and even mentioned that Mr. Modell was invited to the house while they are here but couldn’t make it because of a scheduling conflict.
As a Kobe Bryant fan, I asked if Nike planned to continue the Kobe brand after he retires similar to what they did with Michael Jordan. While Mr. Ferris admitted Kobe is no Jordan as he is a once in a liftetime talent, and no one is Jordan for that matter, he did say that they have some things in the works. Nothing is final and they aren’t exactly what the plan is yet. They will cross that path when they get to it but we shouldn’t expect to see the Kobe brand disappear any time soon and I am glad to hear that!
