The George Washington University celebrated the graduating class of 2012 with a week of events culminating in the university commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 20.
GW Trustee Linda Rabbitt, founder and chief executive officer of Rand Construction Corporation, the second-largest female-owned construction firm in the country, addressed the GWSB graduating class at the School of Business commencement ceremony on May 18 at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Rabbitt urged the Class of 2012 not to let fear of failure prevent them from taking chances to find success. “If you spend your efforts trying to avoid failures, you will never do anything meaningful or learn anything important,” Rabbitt said.
Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of “NBC Nightly News” and host of “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” delivered the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University before an estimated 25,000 graduates, friends and family members. International business leader and humanitarian Carlos Slim and alumna and artist Clarice Smith were also awarded honorary degrees at the ceremony.
