Team Owner Leonsis to Lecture on Sport Management
Ted Leonsis, owner of the NBA’s Washington Wizards and the NHL’s Washington Capitals, will speak to a GWSB sport management class next week.
Leonsis is the founder, majority owner, chairman and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the sports and entertainment group which owns the Wizards, Capitals, the WNBA’s Washington Mystics and the Verizon Center.
Leonsis will speak to undergraduates in the “Issues in Sport and Event Management” course taught by Mark Hyman, a lecturer in GWSB’s sport management program.
Hyman said Leonsis will discuss his new book, The Business of Happiness, and will answer student questions about the NHL and NBA. Leonsis was also a guest speaker in the class last year.
“Social responsibility is a recurring theme throughout the semester,” said Hyman, who also teaches a sports law class at GWSB in the fall. “Ted’s visits elevate the discussion and stimulate our thinking about the possibilities for doing good while doing well.”
