Former Student Honored by D.C. Chamber of Commerce

Kris Hart, who attended GW from ’01 through ’05, received the first D.C. Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the chamber’s annual awards gala, held on June 14 in the District. An excellent selection for an award dedicated to “an individual under 35 years of age who is a founder, owner, CEO or president of a company” who “demonstrates a high level of entrepreneurship, spirit, leadership, creativity and determination to be successful,” Hart has been a virtual one-man economic stimulus program for the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Hart’s businesses – Hart Strategic Enterprises, FoBoGro (Foggy Bottom Grocery) and Relaxed Spa & Tans – employ more than 70 people, the majority of whom are GW students and/or D.C. residents.

Hart’s nomination received the enthusiastic support of local business people and residents. Among those who sent letters to the Chamber on his behalf were Ed Pease, former congressman and current senior vice president for Rolls Royce, and former GW President Stephen Trachtenberg.

  1. Amazing…Kris we (your family and friends from Pa.) are so proud of your accomplishments yet what we know for sure is from a young age you were a peoples’ man. As individuals we all seek to know why we are here, what is our purpose, and how we are to serve – yet you seem to intuitively know how to serve by how you live your life… minute by minute – Kris you did good!

  3. If just half of the young college grads could create the businesses you have in a short four years since your graduation that employs 70 people we would not have an employment problem in this country. Congratulations!
