Kris Hart, who attended GW from ’01 through ’05, received the first D.C. Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the chamber’s annual awards gala, held on June 14 in the District. An excellent selection for an award dedicated to “an individual under 35 years of age who is a founder, owner, CEO or president of a company” who “demonstrates a high level of entrepreneurship, spirit, leadership, creativity and determination to be successful,” Hart has been a virtual one-man economic stimulus program for the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Hart’s businesses – Hart Strategic Enterprises, FoBoGro (Foggy Bottom Grocery) and Relaxed Spa & Tans – employ more than 70 people, the majority of whom are GW students and/or D.C. residents.
Hart’s nomination received the enthusiastic support of local business people and residents. Among those who sent letters to the Chamber on his behalf were Ed Pease, former congressman and current senior vice president for Rolls Royce, and former GW President Stephen Trachtenberg.
