More than 100 seasoned, sports industry professionals crowded campus for the The Sports Industry Networking and Career Conference, held March 4-5. GWSB’s Lisa Delpy Neirotti, associate professor of tourism and hospitality management, co-founded the conference to create an opportunity for students to learn from and network with industry executives.
Dean Doug Guthrie provided opening remarks and emphasized the conference’s importance in encouraging “thinking about sports marketing and sports management as a field that students can aspire to.”
Gary Stevenson, MBA ’81, former president of the marketing and media group at NBA Properties, and former executive vice president for business affairs at the PGA Tour; and Michael Robichaud, vice president of global sponsorships for MasterCard, delivered the keynote addresses. Panelists included George McPhee, general manager of the NHL’s Washington Capitals, and Kevin Payne, president and CEO of major league soccer team DC United.
