Speaker Examines Labor Disputes with NFL, Players
Will the nation’s football stadiums be empty during the 2011 season? Will players go on strike? Will fans be disappointed if football season doesn’t start on time? George Atallah, MBA ’09, assistant executive director of external affairs for the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), gave the GW community an inside look into the ongoing contract negotiations between the NFL and the NFL Players Association. The negotiations could lead to a lockout next year if the two sides can’t reach agreement.
In May 2008, team owners decided to play the 2010 season without a bargaining agreement in place. Atallah, who manages the NFLPA’s media relations, strategic partnerships and fan outreach, on Oct. 25 spoke about the labor disputes between the two sides and what it might take for the NFL and the NFL Players Association to come to an agreement. This event was organized as part of GWSB’s Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management’s sports management curriculum.
